Kurnool District Collector P. Ranjth Basha on Sunday directed the officials to maintain vigil to avoid any loss of property or lives and to monitor the situation continuously. The administration has set up a control room in the District Collectorate and asked people to contact 08518-277305 for any assistance or passing information.
Mr. Basha urged people not to stay in open areas or under trees during heavy rains as there is a possibility of lightning strikes and asked farmers working in fields and cattle and sheep grazers to take shelter under buildings.
Anantapur District Collector Dr V. Vinod Kumar urged people to venture out only in emergency situations. He said several streams, lakes and rivulets are on the verge of overflowing in view of continuous rains since the past few days. He asked people not to cross these water bodies and also not to travel on roads during heavy rains.
Mr. Kumar asked people living near Tadakaleru, Pandameru, Penna, Hagari (Vedavathi), Chitravathi, Kutaleru, Uppu Vanka and other water bodies to be on a high alert. According to the Collector, the total capacity of 146 minor irrigation tanks in the district is 2,985 mcft. By Saturday, 20 tanks were 100% filled to their capacity, another 20 tanks were filled by 75%, 43 tanks filled upto 50%, and 63 tanks filled by 25%.
