KSRTC increases luggage fares by 15%, effective February 16, aligning with the 2025 bus fare hike.
The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has revised its luggage charges, increasing them by around 15%, in line with the bus fare hike implemented in 2025. The revised luggage rates will come into effect from February 16, Monday.
Passengers are allowed to carry luggage weighing up to 30 kg free of cost. The revised charges will apply only to luggage exceeding this limit. The rates have been fixed based on stages, with one stage, in KSRTC terms, equal to six kilometres.
Under the new norms, if a passenger carries luggage exceeding 30 kg, a charge of ₹6 will be levied for stages 1 to 5. The charge increases to ₹12 for stages 6 to 10, ₹20 for stages 11 to 15 and ₹25 for stages 16 to 20. For stages 21 to 50, the charges rise gradually from ₹28 to ₹50. From ₹54 for stages 51 to 55, the charges continue to increase steadily, reaching ₹145 for stages 156 to 160.
Traditionally, luggage charges are revised whenever passenger fares are increased. However, although bus fares were hiked in January 2025, the luggage rates were not revised at that time. The corporation has now implemented the pending revision to address this gap, KSRTC said. KSRTC also noted that luggage charges were last revised in December 2021.
