In a society drawn to material aspects, spirituality is vital for every individual to lead a balanced and effective life, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Coimbatore on Sunday, while taking part in Mahashivrathri celebration at Isha Yoga Centre.
Once the inner potential is realised, the individual’s contribution becomes a variable agent for society and nation, he said, after presenting Bhavya Bharat Bhushan Awards instituted this year as an annual feature to recognise distinguished personalities.
The Defence Minister commended Isha Foundation for making the message of Indian philosophy easier to understand for people getting entangled in compulsions of action or sinking into inertia. India has offered yoga in renewed form; the spiritual essence of Indian culture is embraced across the world.
The Defence Minister and Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, Founder of Isha Foundation, presented the awards to nine distinguished personalities, including N. Rajam, Violonist; Alarmel Valli (Arts and Entertainment), Nambi Narayanan (Science and Technology), A.S. In his address, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev said the special night of transcendence was meant to instil a natural surge of realisation that one can never be the impediment for becoming the maker of own life.
