Kerala scrap merchants launch ‘Aakri Kada’ mobile app to streamline scrap collection

The Kerala Scrap Merchants Association has unveiled a new mobile application 'Aakri Kada' to stream scrap collection and ensure effective recycling. Users can click and upload pictures of scrap lying unused via a mobile phone.
In a bid to help people to dispose of scrap that piles up in their homes and to ensure effective recycling, the Kerala Scrap Merchants Association (KSMA) has rolled out a mobile application named 'Aakri Kada'. The app was launched by Kerala Minister for Industries P Rajeev at Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram and is aimed at effective collection and recycling of scrap.
KSMA state President V M Kunji Muhammed and KSMA state general secretary K P A Sheriff were present on the occasion and the latter explained the functioning of the app. Thiruvananthapuram corporation health standing committee chairperson Jameela Sreedharan released Aakri Kada livery for members, reported Business Today.
The KSMA has built an app to bring together its members and the common man who are finding it tough to dispose off their waste that piles up in their homes and surroundings. 'Aakri Kada' has been unveiled as a service initiative with a social significance and makers of the app hope to be more useful for the general public in the coming days.
The KSMA members will be able to use the app in finding recyclable scrap. People have an option to click and upload pictures of scrap lying unused in a house or scrapyard via their mobile phone. Once the images are uploaded, an alert will be sent to KSMA members operating in the vicinity and they will be able to collect the scrap meant for disposal directly from persons who upload the pictures of scrap.
KSMA was founded on July 20, 2017 and claims that it represents around 95 per cent of traders working in the scrap sector. At present, 90 per cent of the recyclable solid waste generated in Kerala is treated by members of the Association.
