
Kerala nuns’ harassment case: Railway police arrest 2 from Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi

Days after two nuns belonging to a Kerala-based congregation were harassed and forced to deboard a train in UP, the railway police arrested two persons in connection with the case from Jhansi.
Two persons have been arrested by the railway police in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi in connection with a case related to the harassment of two nuns during a train journey last month. Four, including two nuns belonging to a Kerala-based congregation, were verbally harassed and forced off a train over suspicion of human trafficking on March 19. They were, however, released after a probe found no basis made in a complaint against them. The two arrested by the railway police have been identified as Anchal Arjariya and Purgesh Amariya. As per reports, the two arrested are affiliated to right-wing groups in Jhansi.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
