A rice straw laden lorry caught fire on Monday after coming in contact with an overhead electricity line. The driver feared the lorry would be gutted and jumped out in panic. However, Shaji Verghese, a resident of Kerala's Kozhikode district hopped into the lorry which was already on fire and made sure all rice straws were dropped on the ground.
The video of the incident has now gone viral. Shaji, drove the lorry in a zigzag way to ensure all rice straws fell on the ground. He drove the vehicle into the playground nearby and with the help of local residents and fire force officials, brought the fire under control.
The lorry had come from Karnataka with rice straw and caught fire near Kodencherry town on Monday.
Two fire tenders, labour society workers and other residents doused the rice straws that were burning. Timely intervention ensured that the lorry was not gutted.
