
Karnataka teacher extorts gold from student in exchange for exam paper

A teacher at a Dharwad school allegedly took 80 grams of gold from a student after promising access to a preparatory SSLC exam paper. The incident has triggered a police investigation amid further allegations and concern for student safety.
A teacher at Vidyaranya School in Karnataka’s Dharwad allegedly extorted nearly 80 grams of gold worth nearly Rs 12 lakh from a student after promising to provide a Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) preparatory question paper. The student allegedly attempted suicide after a police complaint was filed into the incident.
An SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) question paper refers to the official Class 10 board examination paper conducted in several Indian states, including Karnataka and Kerala.
The case came to light after the student’s family, to their complete dismay, discovered that the gold was missing from the house and lodged a formal complaint with the police.
The student is currently recovering in hospital following an alleged suicide attempt by consuming poison.
According to reports, the teacher initially demanded cash in exchange for the question paper.
Initially, the teacher assured the student that he would give the question paper in exchange for money.
