President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s contradictory takes on Musk’s email threat to federal employees left Jimmy Fallon’s head spinning and jokes churning. (Watch the video below.)
On Tuesday’s “The Tonight Show,” the host highlighted the confusion that has followed Musk’s messages exhorting workers to explain their worth or face dismissal.
After his original email Saturday ordering employees to list their achievements for the week or else, Musk said he was giving the employees a second chance to reply. But Trump administration personnel officials have said responding was voluntary. (Trump didn’t clarify matters any when he at one point said workers would be “semi-fired” for noncompliance.)
“It’s confusing,” Fallon griped. “When you walk in the White House and say who’s in charge, everyone just shrugs like they’re working at Lids.”
The sports headwear purveyor might not appreciate the jab, but hats off to the host anyway.
