Jee Main 2026 Session 1 paper analysis: Maths toughest, paper rated moderate to difficult
India Today
JEE Main shift analysis is here. Experts suggest that the paper was moderate to difficult, with some sections proving more challenging. Here's a look at the detailed analysis.
The JEE Main 2026 examination held on January 28 (morning shift) was rated moderate to difficult by candidates and experts, with Mathematics emerging as the most challenging section of the paper. According to Ajay Sharma, National Academic Director (Engineering) at Aakash Educational Services Limited, the paper was well-balanced in terms of syllabus coverage but tested students’ time management and accuracy.
While all three subjects were evenly represented, the lengthy and calculation-heavy Mathematics section made it difficult for many candidates to attempt the paper fully within the given time.
The Physics section was considered easier compared to Mathematics, with questions drawn from almost all major chapters.
Electromagnetism carried the highest weightage, while Optics and Waves had fewer questions. Mechanics had an average presence in the paper.
Some questions required extra time, but overall the section was manageable for students who had strong conceptual clarity.
Topics such as Electromagnetic Waves, Thermodynamics, and Modern Physics also featured prominently, making the section balanced and predictable for well-prepared candidates.
