
J&K: Cop killed in attempted LeT attack on BJP leader in Srinagar

In an attempted attack on a local BJP leader, a cop was shot dead by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the outskirts of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
The incident took place when one of the four terrorists, disguised himself as a woman wearing ‘Burqa’ (veil), approached the main door of the residence of BJP leader Anwar Ahmad in Arigam Nowgam, requesting for a meeting, a police official said. Ahmad, BJP's district general secretary for Baramulla and incharge for Kupwara district, was not present in the house, the official said. The terrorists fired indiscriminately as soon as the main door was opened, killing a sentry on the spot, he added.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
