Senior Congress leader Sachin Pilot has said that atrocities against people belonging to the marginalised community should not be tolerated anywhere in the country. He was reacting to the death of a Dalit student in Rajasthan .

As pressure mounts on the Congress government in Rajasthan over the death of a Dalit boy in Jalore, senior party leader Sachin Pilot said 'it happens in other states' can't be an answer. Earlier, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had said such incidents also happen in other parts of the country.

Sachin Pilot also said such incidents should not be looked at through a political lens. He said there is a need to make the people of the marginalised community feel secure. "Can't see such incidents through a political lens. I think the marginalised classes should be made to feel secure."

Talking about the Congress government in Rajasthan, he said leaders of the party, including him, met the kin of the family and assured them that swift action would be taken. He said, "Our leaders met the family. The child will not come back, but we can ensure that such things don't happen in the future."

A nine-year-old Dalit boy died on Saturday after he was allegedly beaten up by a teacher for drinking water from a pot in a private school in the Jalore district of Rajasthan.

The victim, a student of a private school in Surana village in Jalore district, was beaten up on July 20 and succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Saturday.

The accused teacher, Chail Singh, 40, was arrested and was charged under sections of murder and the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot took to Twitter and said the incident was tragic. He stated, "The death of a student due to assault by a teacher in a private school in the Sayla police station area of Jalore is tragic. A case was registered under the section of murder and SC/ST Act against the accused and he has been arrested."
