Is South cinema the new Bollywood?

For the longest time, Bollywood's most masaledaar offerings were either direct remakes or inspired by South cinema. Now, the latter is here to claim its throne.

When did Salman Khan really become the bhaijaan of Bollywood? Well, it wasn't Ek Tha Tiger or Dabangg. It was Wanted. The 2009 release, a remake of the Telugu film Pokiri (2006), starring Mahesh Babu, catapulted him to super-stardom. For the longest time, Bollywood's most masaledaar offerings were either direct remakes or inspired by South cinema. Think Rohit Shetty and his cars-flying brand, and you'd know what we mean. Why? Because South cinema had a zing that Bollywood wanted to reach but didn't know how. But, all that's changed now. For South cinema is done being second to Bollywood. It's here to claim its throne.
