The following post discusses minor spoilers and plot points for the new Pixar movie “Hoppers” so beware if you want to go in totally cold.
How many children are really into movies that deal with urban development and city environmental policy? Leave it to Pixar, though, to make it hilarious.
The iconic animation studio’s gone the talking-animal route many times but never like the sci-fi comedy “Hoppers” (in theaters March 6). A rage-filled teen activist gets her mind “hopped” into a robotic beaver and learns way more about the animal kingdom than she (or anyone) ever knew. And with chatty critters around, it’s going to strongly appeal to youngsters.
But is “Hoppers” OK for little ones? Because this Pixar film is very different from your average episode of “Bluey.” Here’s what caregivers should know going into the new animated movie:
Nineteen-year-old animal lover Mabel (voiced by Piper Curda) feuds with the city of Beaverton’s Mayor Jerry (Jon Hamm) when, as part of his reelection campaign, he wants to construct a highway overpass on the glade where she spent much of a her childhood. Because a beaver is a keystone species, if Mabel’s able to get a beaver to build a dam there, the highway project would get scrapped.
