Israel’s military said on Thursday (March 12, 2026) Iranian missiles were heading towards Israel and that air defences were active as blasts were heard from Jerusalem, before Israel announced “wide-scale” strikes on Tehran and Hezbollah. The Israeli military urged people in affected areas to head to shelters, as it said it “identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel”.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump on Wednesday (March 11) said that Iran was on the verge of defeat, but warned that U.S. forces could escalate strikes such that the country would be “almost impossible” to rebuild. “They are pretty much at the end of the line,” Mr. Trump told reporters in Washington.
The UN Security Council on Wednesday passed a resolution calling for Iran to immediately halt its attacks on Gulf states, saying they breach international law and pose a “serious threat to international peace and security.” The resolution, passed by 13 votes with two abstentions, “demands the immediate cessation of all attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.”

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday directed the Director General of Police to appoint a police officer not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police of the CB-CID to conduct investigation into the death of R. Akash Delison allegedly in police custody, and include relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The National Statistical Office released a new GDP series with 2022-23 as the base year after an 11-year gap, amid public questioning of the veracity of the 2011-12 series. The revised estimates show GDP size declining by about 3-4%, with sectoral composition changing slightly — higher shares for agriculture and industry and a decline in the services sector share.
