Instagram confirms Repost feature, expected to arrive soon

Instagram will add an option to let you repost other people’s posts and reels. The company has confirmed that it is testing this feature.

It seems that Instagram will add an option to let you repost other people’s posts and reels. The company has confirmed that the platform is planning to test this feature with a small group of people. As of now, users need to use third-party apps to repost images or videos of another person’s accounts. Here’s everything you need to know about this feature.

“We’re exploring the ability to reshare posts in Feed — similar to how you can reshare in Stories — so people can share what resonates with them, and so original creators are credited for their work,” a spokesperson from Meta told TechCrunch.

The feature was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, and he also shared a few screenshots of it, which show how this may work. The Repost feature will be located on everyone’s profile section, just near the “tag” section. While the feature would help promote the content of someone, some users could also misuse it.

There are accounts on Instagram that simply repost or reshare the content of someone to get views or to increase reach. So, with Instagram introducing a native “Repost” feature, it might become easier for such people to steal content of others. While there is no confirmation on whether there will be a link to the main profile or just a name, we do expect Instagram to add some credit to let people know about the original content creator.

Currently, you can reshare a post of users on your Instagram Stories, or one can simply download a third-party app to repost a post of other accounts. At the moment, there is no confirmation on when this feature could arrive for everyone. The company is first planning to test this with a small group of people. So, once the test is successful, you can expect it to arrive for all the users. The feature is expected to arrive for both Android and iOS versions of the app.
