Uttarakhand's next chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat says that he is inspired by former Prime Minister Atal Bihar Vajpayee-- how he sat on the floor to eat and travelled third class in trains.
Uttarakhand's new chief minister-elect, Tirath Singh Rawat, says that promoting tourism and agriculture in the state is on his priority list. He also said that as the new CM, he will carry forward the work of the Char Dham Road Project and Rishikesh Rail Project initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking exclusively to India Today TV, Tirath Rawat said, "I will carry forward all the projects and work done by former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat in the state. I will also ensure completion of the Char Dham Road Project and Rishikesh Rail Project initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We will all work in unison". He added, "My priority for the state is to promote agriculture and tourism here".
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.

India on Monday said it has not held bilateral talks with the United States on deploying naval vessels to secure merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The clarification came after US President Donald Trump urged countries to send warships to keep the strategic waterway open amid tensions with Iran.
