
Indian-origin Singaporean sentenced to 3.5 years in jail, 9 strokes of cane for vandalising police post

A 31-year-old Indian-origin man in Singapore, Sivaprakash Mailravanan, has been sentenced to 3.5 years in jail and nine strokes of cane for damaging a police station by causing 16 explosions. The court observed that Sivaprakash suffers from a delusional disorder.
An Indian-origin Singaporean was sentenced to imprisonment for 3.5 years and nine strokes of cane for setting a fire and causing 16 explosions outside a police post in Singapore in March last year. In an order on Wednesday, the district court observed that Sivaprakash Mailravanan, 31, was suffering from a delusional disorder when he committed the violent acts at Kallang Neighbourhood Police Post on March 13, 2020, the Straits Times reported. While no one was injured during the incident, the court noted that his offences caused some 20,000 dollars in damage to the area and a nearby car.
Legal immigration to the US in 2025 has seen one of its sharpest declines since the pandemic. About 2,50,000 fewer visas in total were issued compared to 2024, reported The Washington Post. The drop has been global, but India stands out as one of the worst affected, alongside China. Visa approvals for the two countries fell by a combined 84,000.
