
Indian-origin man is CIA's first chief tech officer

Nand Mulchandani has been appointed as US agency CIA's first-ever Chief Technology Officer.
Nand Mulchandani, an Indian-origin man, has been appointed as Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) first-ever Chief Technology Officer. Mulchandani studied at Delhi’s Bluebells School International between 1979 and 1987.
The announcement was made by CIA Director William J Burns. According to CIA, Mulchandani has over 25 years of expertise working in Silicon Valley.

Mulchandani has a degree in Computer Science and Math from Cornell, a Master of Science degree in Management from Stanford, and a Master in Public Administration degree from Harvard.
"Mulchandani brings substantial personal sector, startup, and authorities experience to the CIA," the US agency said in a press release.

Legal immigration to the US in 2025 has seen one of its sharpest declines since the pandemic. About 2,50,000 fewer visas in total were issued compared to 2024, reported The Washington Post. The drop has been global, but India stands out as one of the worst affected, alongside China. Visa approvals for the two countries fell by a combined 84,000.
