India registers 2,323 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours; Kerala logs maximum fresh infections

India logged a total of 2,323 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with Kerala recording the maximum number of fresh infections. The top 5 states with the most fresh cases of Covid-19 are Kerala, Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
India registered a total of 2,323 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, marking a 2.8% increase since yesterday. Kerala recorded the maximum new cases with 556 fresh infections. This brings the total caseload in India to 4,31,34,145.
The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Kerala with 556 cases, followed by Delhi with 530 cases, Maharashtra with 311 cases, Haryana with 262 cases and Uttar Pradesh with 146 cases.
Of the new cases, 77.7% were reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 23.93% of the new cases. A total of 25 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 5,24,348.
India's active caseload stands at 14,996. In the last 24 hours, active cases declined by 48. India's recovery rate now stands at 98.75%. A total of 2,346 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total recoveries to 4,25,94,801 across the country.
India has administered a total of 15,32,383 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,92,12,96,720.
India also confirmed its first case of the BA.4 sub-variant of Omicron. It has been reported from Hyderabad, according to Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) data.
"After detecting the first case of BA.4, the contact tracing has already been started of those who came in contact with a person who travelled to Hyderabad from South Africa. He was asymptomatic and the sample was collected on May 9," ANI reported, quoting sources.
