India accounts for every fifth new corona case in the world

India has surpassed Brazil in terms of daily Covid-19 cases as the country has been reporting more than one in every five confirmed infections globally each day.

On average, India now accounts for the highest daily number of coronavirus cases in the world, data from the last seven days show. More than one in every five confirmed Covid infections globally each day are from India, compared to one in ten reported in Brazil in the last week. That way, India has surpassed Brazil in the world tally of coronavirus infections, stepping up to be the second hardest-hit country in the world.
