IND vs NZ: Sanju Samson's Vizag T20I ends in another missed opportunity
India Today
Sanju Samson's poor run of form continues as he was dismissed for 24 off 16 balls during the Vizag T20I. Samson made a good start and failed to push on and get a big score.
Sanju Samson's lean run of form continued in the New Zealand T20I series as he let another golden chance slip away in Vizag on Wednesday, January 28. Samson was dismissed for 24 runs off 15 balls after going at an impressive rate early on in his innings.
India are chasing 216 runs to win the match and go 4-0 up in the series but found themselves in early trouble. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden duck off the first ball of the innings and Suryakumar Yadav also soon followed back to the pavilion. With Ishan Kishan missing the match and Shreyas Iyer remaining on the sidelines, this was the chance for Samson to capitalise and got two back-to-back boundaries in. He was being supported by Rinku Singh at the other end as the duo ensured India got 53 runs in the powerplay.
Samson was scoring almost at a strike-rate of 200 at one point as he finished off the first six overs with a beautiful six off Jacob Duffy. However, once Mitchell Santner came on to bowl, Samson just couldn't find his rhythm in and ended up playing all over a flighted delivery and saw his stumps rattled.
IND vs NZ, VIZAG T20I UPDATES
One of the major issues with Samson so far in the season has been his footwork, as he tends to go back in the crease to bowlers. Against Santner the same issue persisted as he went too deep and failed to get any movement into his feet.
Ian Smith, who was on commentary, said that Samson seems to be in two minds about his batting at the moment.
