Agreeing with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement in UK on Friday, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said that central agencies are used to silence those who speak against the central government in India.
A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the ruling BJP of “stifling voices” at the Ideas for India conference at Cambridge University in the UK, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut backed his claims.
“We too have said the same thing but in a different way. The central agencies run a campaign against all those who are against the central government or the BJP. And this is not correct. Even today, many are scared and not able to speak up openly. There is democracy in the country but this is the democracy of the central government and it’s being suffocated by the central agencies. This has never been seen before. Whoever speaks against the government or whoever speaks the truth is acted upon by a central agency,” Sanjay Raut said on Saturday.
Speaking at the Ideas for India conference on Friday, Rahul Gandhi said, “India is witnessing an attack on the institutions that built the country, which is now occupied by the Deep State The deep state is chewing the Indian state, much like what happened in Pakistan.”
“India is not in a good place. The BJP has sprinkled kerosene all over and one spark can create big trouble,” he added.
“People tell us [Congress] to have a cadet like the BJP. We say, if we have a cadet like the BJP, we will be BJP. The BJP stifles voices. We listen. We are designed to listen to the people and place it on the table,” Rahul Gandhi said in a searing attack on the ruling party.
Rahul Gandhi was joined by leaders of the opposition, including Sitaram Yechury, Salman Khurshid, Tejashwi Yadav, Mahua Moitra and Manoj Jha, among others, at the conference on Friday.
