Piku is a movie that always comes to mind when one thinks of a film that got everyday fashion right for the modern Indian woman. Starring Deepika Padukone, Irrfan and Amitabh Bachchan in the lead roles, Piku hit theatres on May 8, 2015. It has been almost six years since then, and it still remains the movie that reinvented fashion for cinema in the past decade. It changed the definition of what is real and relatable. It showed that what we see on screen can be relatable for that simple city girl - who is independent, cares for her family and is a workaholic - instead of just being aspirational. Bodycon dresses, bralettes and silhouettes that may not be as comfortable as they look, were swapped for the breezy kurtis, cotton shirts, wide palazzos that fit the image of a multi-tasking woman.
