IMD predicts rainfall in Delhi over the week; temperature likely to decrease

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rainfall in the national capital over the week due to western disturbances. These disturbances are likely to lead to cloudy conditions again in Delhi, staving off the mercury spike.

Due to the western disturbances approaching the national capital, the weather department has predicted light rainfall in the coming days.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, the two back-to-back western disturbances will reach Delhi, first between March 8 and 10 and another around March 13.

According to the weather report, while the impact of the western disturbance might be less this time, the Met officials have forecast 25 per cent to 50 per cent of rainfall between March 8 and 10.

Amid the light drizzles and cloudy weather, the maximum temperature in Delhi are likely to record a dip. The maximum temperature will fall between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

R.K Jenamani, the scientist at IMD, told Hindustan Times (HT), "So far, there is a chance of drizzle activity and rain occurring over Delhi, but like the last spell, it is possible the western disturbance fails to reach Delhi. We have forecast that it is not likely to touch Uttar Pradesh. Even without rain though, Delhi will see cloudy skies and surface winds touching 35km/hr, which will again bring down the maximum temperature."

The air quality in the national capital remained in the moderate category on Sunday, with AQI at 115.

The System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) said, "The AQI is in the upper end of the ‘moderate’ air quality and it is likely to be between ‘moderate’ or the lower end of the ‘poor’ category in the next three days (March 7 to 9) as winds and mixing layer height are moderate, resulting in moderate ventilation of near-surface pollutants."
