Hyderabad is set to become a global film hub, says CM Revanth Reddy at TGFA 2025, highlighting its cinematic potential.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy asserted that Hyderabad is on course to emerge as a global hub for the film industry, as he addressed the Gaddar Film Awards 2025.
Highlighting the city’s growing prominence across sectors, he said that Hyderabad is not only known for IT and pharmaceuticals but is increasingly establishing itself as the centre of Indian cinema.
Paying tribute to stalwarts who played a key role in shifting the Telugu film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad, the Chief Minister recalled the contributions of N.T. Rama Rao, Akkineni Nageswara Rao and D. Ramanaidu. He likened them to the four pillars that laid the foundation for the industry in the city. He also acknowledged the role of Ramoji Rao in building Ramoji Film City, and remembered the efforts of leaders such as Dasari Narayana Rao and Prabhakar Reddy, who worked towards the welfare of film workers, including facilitating housing for them.
Mr. Reddy noted that Indian cinema is increasingly being recognised on a global scale, citing the success of films such as Baahubali, RRR, Kalki and Pushpa. “There is a growing need to bring the Indian film industry under one umbrella and position it strongly on the global stage, with Hyderabad at its centre,” he added.
Reiterating the State government’s commitment to the sector, he said the Telangana government has revived film awards in the name of Gaddar after a gap of nearly 10 years, replacing the earlier Nandi Awards. The TGFA, now in its second year, is part of efforts to recognise talent across generations, from senior artistes to emerging actors such as Naga Chaitanya and Rashmika Mandanna.
Drawing comparisons with countries like Japan and South Korea, Mr Reddy said strong policy support from governments has helped their film industries grow globally. He said Telangana aims to adopt a similar approach by encouraging the film sector through progressive policies and infrastructure.
