Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday expressed solidarity with Sri Lanka as the island nation plunged into serious trouble when fresh protests erupted in the capital city over economic collapse. Angry protesters broke into the presidential palace and forced President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to flee. He is expected to resign on July 13.
As the condition in the neighbouring country deteriorates, Sonia Gandhi on Sunday issued a statement saying the Congress has been following with concern the evolving political situation in Sri Lanka.
"The economic challenges, rising prices, and shortages of food, fuel, and essential commodities have caused enormous hardships and distress among the people there," she said.

The Congress president further said the Congress expresses its solidarity with Sri Lanka and its people in this moment of grave crisis and hopes they will be able to overcome it.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
