Honda Cars India appoints Takuya Tsumura as CEO and President

Takuya Tsumura will take charge of Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) as President and CEO from April 1, 2022 replacing Gaku Nakanishi as his four-year long tenure draws to a close.

Honda Motor Company Limited has announced the appointment of Takuya Tsumura as the President and CEO of Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL) effective from April 1, 2022. This move is part of Honda’s annual management changes as Gaku Nakanishi, current President and CEO of HCIL, moves to Asia and Oceania region as GM, Automobile business.

Takuya Tsumura has been associated with the Japanese automaker for more than three decades and brings with him massive experience he gained while working in countries like Thailand, Australia, China, Turkey, Japan and also in Europe. He was at Honda Cars head office for South Asian countries from 1998 to 2000, including India.

During his 4-year stint as President and CEO of HCIL, Nakanishi led the brand through one of the toughest phases for automotive companies in India as the pandemic hit affecting manufacturing and sales. Honda also commenced exports of its vehicles manufactured in India to more countries and worked on improving its sales and service network under his leadership.

Honda has the City Hybrid sedan launch planned for India this year. The hybrid variant of one of India’s most popular sedans will offer one of the most efficient cars on sale in India. Powered by a 1.5-litre petrol unit merged with electric motors, the petrol engine makes 98bhp while the motors make 109bhp. In addition to having all the features of the ICE-powered Honda City, the car is also expected to get driver assistance features (ADAS). Honda City Hybrid is likely to cost around Rs 17 to 20 lakh.
