
Himachal Pradesh relaxes Covid curbs; night curfew to continue

Schools, colleges, coaching classes, gyms and clubs in Himachal Pradesh will be allowed to operate from February 3 onwards.
Himachal Pradesh government has decided to allow schools to conduct physical classes for students of Classes 9-12 starting February 3. A call in this regard was taken in view of a decline in new Covid-19 cases.
The same relaxation has been offered to institutions of higher education, coaching classes, libraries, gyms and clubs.
It was, however, decided in a meeting chaired by CM Jai Ram Thakur in Shimla on Monday to continue the statewide night curfew from 10 pm to 6 pm.

The Himachal Pradesh government, on the other hand, has now allowed public gatherings of a maximum of 500 people for outdoor events and 250 people for indoor events. But facilities hosting such events will only be allowed to operate at 50 per cent seating capacity and must adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols.
Government offices in the state, meanwhile, will now function six days a week with 100 per cent capacity. Earlier this month, government offices in Himachal Pradesh were instructed to function five days a week with 50 per cent capacity owing to the third wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
A spokesperson for the state government also clarified that government employees with disabilities and pregnant women will continue to work from home.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
