Karnataka Home minister Araga Jnanendra alleged that the hijab issue was a conspiracy that is being taken to international levels. He alleged that people were trying to showcase India in a small way to other countries.

Karnataka Home minister, Araga Jnanendra, said that the hijab issue is turning into a conspiracy. “This is being taken to an international level now. People want to showcase India in a small way to other countries. We are real seculars,” he said.

He further said that the government was digging into information linked to the petitioners in the ongoing hijab controversy. “Yes, we have info that they are linked to a few organisations. We will take action if they provoke,” he added.

Reacting to Congress politician Zameer Ahmed’s comment about hijabs preventing rape, the Karnataka home minister strongly said, “You mean rapes are happening on people without hijab? People can wear anything they want. Only in school is there a uniform. How will a country live if rapes happen. It's only Zameer Ahmed’s opinion.”

Regarding the violence in Karnataka, the home minister assured people that the situation was under control. Schools in Karnataka were reopened on Monday, February 14, after a meeting between the local administration and leaders was held on Sunday evening to ensure communal harmony.

“Arrests have been made in stone-pelting cases. It's not a law and order situation. It's under control now. Earlier, there were bigger protests. Students have protested earlier many times,” he said.

The Home minister also addressed the issue of students replacing an Indian flag with a saffron flag in a school in Karnataka.
