The Calcutta High Court has directed the state to submit within 24 hours the status report on the arson incident in Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum, in which eight people were charred to death.

The court ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in the area. A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in Delhi would be dispatched to collect samples from the scene of the arson incident, it said.
“Let no evidence be destroyed. The district court and the state DGP will have to ensure the safety of every villager and witnesses. If any post-mortem is pending, it will have to be videographed,” the bench said.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
