
Have set up cybercrime volunteer network to help law enforcement agencies: MHA tells Rajya Sabha

The Union home ministry has told Rajya Sabha that it has established a cybercrime volunteer framework to aid law enforcement agencies across the nation in curbing online crimes.
The Union home ministry on Wednesday told Raya Sabha that the central government has established a cybercrime volunteer framework under the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. The aim of this network is to assist law enforcement agencies across the nation in promoting cyber hygiene. These volunteers will assist the probe agencies as technical experts and report unlawful content found online, the MHA told Rajya Sabha in a reply to a question by AAP MP Sanjay Singh in this regard. Mos Home G Kishan Reddy told the House that the content reported by the volunteers shall be verified and validated by the respective state/UT law enforcement agency before taking appropriate action. The volunteers will not have any discretionary powers, he said.
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
