Gujarati medium schools to teach English in Classes 1 to 3: Gujarat govt

The Gujarat government announced that Gujarati medium schools will teach English in Classes 1 to 3.

The Gujarat government has taken an important decision to help students improve their hold on English. State Education Minister Jitu Vaghani has taken a decision to make English subject compulsory in Gujarati medium school from Classes 1 to 3, starting this academic year.

In Classes 1 and 2, children will be taught verbally and through pictures. Class 3 students will be taught only from textbooks.

The Gujarat government has also decided to train the teachers who would be teaching children English.

English is presently taught in Gujarat government schools from Class 5.
