The court has dismissed the bail pleas of activist Teesta Setalvad and former top cop RB Sreekumar, who have been accused of fabricating evidence in the 2002 Gujarat riots case.
The Ahmedabad City Sessions Court had, on Friday, deferred the hearing of the duo’s bail petitions on Saturday.
Activist Setalvad and former Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar had applied for bail at the Ahmedabad City Sessions Court after their custody got over. Hearing from all sides got over on July 22 and the duo will continue to be in jail.

The Ahmedabad crime branch had registered a case against Teesta Setalvad, RB Sreekumar, and Sanjiv Bhatt for making false and fabricated affidavits, statements, and evidence after the Gujarat riots to target innocent people and politicians. They were arrested in June-end and sent to 14-day judicial custody on July 2.
The Ahmedabad crime branch has alleged a larger conspiracy by the three accused after the Godhra train incident.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
