
Gujarat: Mercury rises to 45 degrees Celsius in Kutch’s Kandla; heatwave likely till April 10

The Kandla airport in the Kutch district of Gujarat on Thursday registered the maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast a heatwave spell over northern parts of Gujarat till April 10.
As heatwave conditions continue to grip parts of Gujarat, the Kandla airport in the Kutch district on Thursday registered the maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius, said the Meteorological Centre.
The maximum temperature crossed the 40 degrees Celsius mark at several locations, including Surendranagar (44.4 degrees Celsius), Bhuj (43.4), Keshod (43.7), Amreli (43.4), Deesa (43.4), Ahmedabad (43.2), Rajkot (43.1) and Gandhinagar (43).
As per the prediction by the MeT officials, heatwave conditions would prevail in different parts of the state till April 11 including Kutch, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Patan, Porbandar, Rajkot, Surendranagar and Amreli.
Citing no respite from the heatwave conditions in the days ahead, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said, "Heat wave spell is likely to continue over Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, south Punjab, south Haryana-Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand during the next 5 days and over northern parts of Gujarat during the next 3 days" (sic)

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
