A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a seven-year-old boy on the rooftop of a mosque under the pretext of teaching him namaz in Gujarat's Ahmedabad, police said on Sunday.
According to officials, the incident took place in Makhdoom Saheb Mosque in Jamalpur area, leading to an immediate arrest of the accused.
The accused, identified as Noman Sheikh, a local resident, lured the child to the mosque rooftop in the afternoon under the guise of offering prayers. He allegedly stayed there with the boy for 15 to 20 and had unnatural sex. The minor is reportedly in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at a hospital, officials said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused has prior cases of assault registered against him.
Police reconstructed the incident, detailing how Noman exploited the pretext of teaching prayers to commit the assault. Local residents expressed outrage over the crime, assisting authorities during the reconstruction process.
A case has been registered, and the police have taken the accused into custody, preparing a panchnama (inquest report) of the incident.
