Kerala government approves Beypore port development in PPP mode, aiming to boost local economy and create jobs.
The State government has decided to develop the Beypore port in Kozhikode in the public-private-partnership (PPP) mode.
The decision was taken at the State Cabinet meeting held in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (February 11, 2026). A release quoting the office of P.A. Mohamed Riyas, Minister for Public Works and Tourism, who is also the MLA for Beypore, said the step would help Beypore develop as a port city. The proposal is to spend over ₹2,000 crore for various works. The Kerala State Maritime Board will implement the project.
Sources said that meeting involving residents would be held in the coming days to ensure their participation. Tender procedures would commence soon, they added. The project is expected to create jobs both for local residents and others. Mr. Riyas also held a meeting with V.N. Vasavan, Minister for Ports, to discuss its possibilities.
Meanwhile, Mr. Riyas said in a release that the project would boost the movement of goods through large containers, and that related businesses would get a fillip. New jobs would be created, and existing labourers would also get benefited. Mr. Riyas added new roads and bridges would be constructed, and Beypore would soon become a ‘designed city’.
