Granting bail to abusive corporator will send wrong message to law-abiding citizens: Mumbai court

While rejecting the anticipatory bail plea of a corporator accused of abusing and threatening a water department official, a Mumbai court said such actions could paralyse the system.
A Mumbai court on Monday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of a corporator accused of abusing and threatening an assistant engineer in the water department. Harish Krishna Bhandirge (41) is a BJP corporator in Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) ward number 146.
Opposing the anticipatory bail plea, the prosecution argued that the accused corporator abused the complainant, a public servant, without confirming the facts. The accused restrained the complainant from performing his duties and if granted bail, is unlikely to cooperate with the investigation, argued the prosecution.
