Ugadi celebrations at Nagayya Kalakshetram highlighted Telugu culture with traditional rituals, literary symposium, and cultural performances.
The departments of Tourism and Endowments conducted Ugadi celebrations in a grand manner at the Nagayya Kalakshetram on Sunday.
District Collector Sumit Kumar lit the traditional lamp, inaugurating the celebrations, while Superintendent of Police (SP) Manikantha Chandolu was also present. Addressing the gathering, the Collector underlined the importance of preserving traditions and respecting elders, while the SP appealed to the parents to impart Telugu language skills to their children.
District Revenue Officer (DRO) K. Mohan Kumar said that the departments of Tourism, Endowments, and Education played a crucial role in successfully organising the Ugadi celebrations.
The Ugadi festivities highlighted the cultural legacy and ageless heritage of the Telugus. Vedic scholar Chilakamarthi Venkata Subbarao from the Kanipakam Varasiddhi Vinayaka Devasthanam performed the ‘Panchanga Sravanam’, a traditional rendering of the Telugu New Year’s astrological predictions.
A symposium was organised to reflect on the literary excellence of the Vijayanagara Empire under king Krishna Devaraya. Eminent personalities from the literary circles underscored the importance of the Telugu language. Youth and students chanted “Jai Telugu Thalli”, showcasing their admiration and reverence for the mother tongue. Students from various private and government schools in Chittoor performed a plethora of cultural programmes.
The Collector and SP felicitated some of the prominent poets, scholars and Veda pundits on this occasion. They also distributed prizes and certificates to the students who took part in the cultural activities.
