Goa CM’s remark on gang rape: ‘Why send 14-year-olds outside at night?’

Two girls were raped by a gang of four men posing as policemen at a beach in Goa on Sunday.
Under pressure from the opposition over the gang rape of two girls on a beach, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is facing flak for remarking in the Assembly that parents need to introspect on why their children were on the beach late at night. “When 14-year-olds stay on the beach the whole night, the parents need to introspect. Just because children don’t listen, we cannot put the responsibility on the government and police,” Mr. Sawant had said on Wednesday, during a debate on a calling attention notice in the House. Mr. Sawant, who also holds the home portfolio, had said parents have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their children and hinted that they should not let their children, particularly minors, out at night.A first-generation entrepreneur, Ramoji Rao is credited with changing the Telugu media landscape launching the Eenadu newspaper with innovative news coverage and page design. Following multiple complaints regarding vehicle dealers not handing over registration certificates (RCs) to registered owners at the time of delivery, the Delhi Transport Department has directed all its district offices to seek reports on the issuance of RCs from vehicle dealers under their jurisdiction on a fortnightly basis. The order was issued on Thursday by Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.
