Greater Chennai Corporation improves water management in the city by clearing water hyacinth, desilting ponds, and removing plastic waste.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is intensifying efforts to enhance water management and mitigate monsoon-related issues across the city on Saturday. The civic body removed water hyacinth from 25,000 sq.m of the Rettaikeni lake in Sholinganallur, desilted the 1.5-acre Aavin pond in Lambert Nagar, and cleared plastic waste from the Balaji Nagar Canal to improve rainwater retention and groundwater recharge. Strengthening bunds and preventing blockages are part of the ongoing initiatives, the GCC said on social media platforms.

After being repeatedly disrupted for three consecutive days over issues ranging from the Governor’s address and alleged disrespect to the national anthem to demands for the resignation of the Excise Minister, among others, normalcy finally returned to the Legislative Council on Friday, with proceedings commencing.
