FWICE urges industry to help Rajpal Yadav: Not an appeal for charity

FWICE urged the film and TV industry to stand by actor Rajpal Yadav as he faces severe financial distress and incarceration in a decade-old cheque-bounce case. Calling it a solidarity appeal, the federation said even small contributions can help him settle dues.
Actor Rajpal Yadav, who recently surrendered at Tihar Jail in connection with a decade-old cheque-bounce case, is finally seeing support from the industry. After actors Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Chaudhary publicly appealed for his aid, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has now urged the industry to stand by Rajpal Yadav.
In a letter released on Wednesday, the film body stated that it is not an appeal for charity but a call for solidarity for a fellow member.
President BN Tiwari told India Today that the federation stands in support of Rajpal, acknowledging that the debt was caused by certain wrong creative decisions. He also shared that it urges the industry and other bodies to come forward and help a talented actor who does not deserve this punishment.
The letter issued by FWICE made an earnest and heartfelt appeal to the entire film and TV fraternity to come together in support of Rajpal during this severe personal and financial distress. “Rajpal Yadav is not merely a celebrated actor known for bringing joy and laughter to millions, but also a dedicated member of our industry who has contributed immensely to Indian cinema through decades of sincere work and memorable performances,” a part of the letter read.
It also clarified that “owing to unfortunate financial circumstances arising from past professional commitments, Rajpal is presently facing grave hardship, including mounting liabilities and incarceration. This situation is not reflective of his character or integrity, but rather the result of circumstances that spiralled beyond control.”
In the statement, FWICE shared that it believes this is a moment for the industry to demonstrate its unity, compassion and collective responsibility towards one of its own. “Financial crises can affect anyone, irrespective of stature or success. What defines us as a fraternity is how we stand by our colleagues when they need us the most.”
