Fuel price hike hits supply of dwarf coconuts

HYDERABAD
The supply of dwarf coconuts was briefly interrupted last week as lorry drivers, who bring the produce from Kerala, refused to carry the stock demanding an increase in transport fare due to rise in fuel prices.
The yellow coconuts are available at only a few places in Hyderabad. “We got fresh stock after a gap of 4-5 days,” says R. Sivaya, who sells coconuts at Dharam Karam Road in Ameerpet. Prices of the coconuts have remained unchanged at ₹50 each, though.
However, prices of coconut water bottles measuring one litre or more is set to shoot up. Each bottle costs around ₹100-120. Since people are inclined to consume coconut water more during the summer season, the demand is likely to be fulfilled with an increase of ₹10-20 per bottle.
