
Former Union minister Pandit Sukh Ram passes away aged 94

Congress leader and former Union minister Pandit Sukh Ram passed away at 94. He was admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi on May 7 after suffering a brain stroke.
Veteran Congress leader and former Union minister Pandit Sukh Ram has passed away, his grandson said. Sukh Ram, 94, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on May 7.
A Himachal Pradesh Congress leader, Sukh Ram's grandson Aashray Sharma, in a Facebook post on late Tuesday night wrote, "Adieu grandfather, Now the phone will not ring (Alvida Dadajee, Abhi Nahi Bajegee Phone Ki Ghanti)."
Sharma also posted his childhood photo with Sukh Ram on Facebook. However, the post did not mention when he breathed his last.
Sukh Ram suffered a brain stroke in Manali on May 4, following which he was admitted at the regional hospital in Mandi. From there, he was airlifted to AIIMS in Delhi for better treatment.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on May 7 provided a state helicopter for airlifting the veteran political leader to Delhi.
Sukh Ram was the Union Minister of State, Communications (Independent Charge) from 1993 to 1996. He was a member of Lok Sabha from the Mandi constituency of Himachal Pradesh. He won the Vidhan Sabha elections five times and the Lok Sabha elections three times.
He represented the Mandi Assembly seat from 1963 to 1984. During his tenure as Animal Husbandry minister in Himachal Pradesh, he brought cows from Germany, which led to the increase in income of the state farmers.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
