Vijayan Thomas had left the Congress owing to differences over the selection of candidates for the upcoming Kerala polls.
Vijayan Thomas, former secretary of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), joined the BJP at the party headquarters in Delhi on Friday. Meanwhile, Congress leaders from Kerala, including former chief minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC chief Mullappally Ramachandran, and Ramesh Chennithala, reached 10 Janpath in Delhi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s residence, for a meeting of the party's central election committee (CEC).
As per the Bill, those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and shall also be liable for a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Violations in respect of a minor, a person of unsound mind, a woman or a person belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe will be punished with imprisonment of seven years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh.
