A massive fire erupted on the Perimalmalai Peak near Kodaikanal hills in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district on Thursday.
Parts of a forest area near Kodaikanal hills in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul district caught fire on Thursday. The blaze was reported on the Perimalmalai Peak.
The fire, which initially started around Thursday midnight in the Manjur forest area, has spread to Mayiladum Parai and Kurusadi forest area since Friday morning.
A video from the spot was shared by news agency ANI. The 40-second video shows a substantial area of the forest on fire with billows of smoke filling the air over it.

Forest personnel have been deployed to bring the fire under control as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, demands to deploy helicopters to doze the fire off has been put forward by activists so as to save the wild animals in the forest area.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
