BURBANK, Calif. – Smoke House may be known for its prime rib and steak Sinatra, but today, Cornbread is the star of the show.
Omar Benson Miller, who plays the scene-stealing sharecropper in awards juggernaut “Sinners,” is tucked inside a red-leather booth at the old Hollywood eatery just days before the Oscars.
The jovial actor can hardly nab a bite of the restaurant’s famous cheesy garlic bread without someone asking for a selfie or sharing well wishes for the movie, which is vying for a record-breaking 16 awards at the March 15 ceremony, including best picture.
“If I was as popular in the industry as I was in real life, I’d probably be on a beach somewhere retired!” Miller, 47, jokes over a late lunch. "People come up to me all the time and talk about Cornbread, because they love the guy. They love what he represents, because they know him from their family or friends.”
