Food for thought: Indian platter gets expensive with soaring prices of veggies

The all-India average prices of onion, tomato and potato have increased. Early data for November suggests a continuation of the rise in prices of vegetables.
Onion, tomato and potato, the three main constituents of an Indian platter, have become costlier and are expected to remain at elevated price levels in the coming days as well. While the all-India average monthly price of potato is at a 10-month high and onion price is at a nine-month high, tomato price is at more than a four-year high till mid-November 2021, according to the Department of Consumer Affairs.
The all-India average price of tomato November 2021 so far is Rs 54 per kg, which was Rs 43 per kg last month and Rs 28 per kg in September. Even average onion price is at Rs 41 per kg in November so far, which was Rs 37.4 per kg last month and Rs 28.5 per kg in September 2021.
