Five government schoolteachers, who were protesting their transfer to distant places, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance in front of the state education department in West Bengal's Kolkata. All the five women teachers - Shikha Das, Jothsna Tudu, Putul Jana and Chabi Das, Anima Nath - were rushed to a hospital after they fell sick. They are believed to be in critical condition.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
