Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma gets bail in High Court  

Ram Gopal Varma was granted anticipatory bail by Andhra Pradesh HC after being booked for “objectionable” social media posts against politicians N Chandrababu Naidu and K Pawan Kalyan

Film director Ram Gopal Varma, who had multiple complaints filed against him in Andhra Pradesh for posting objectionable messages on the social media about Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan and IT Minister Nara Lokesh in the run-up to the 2024 general elections, was granted anticipatory bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) on Tuesday (December 10, 2024.).

The court directed that the filmmaker — popularly known as RGV — should cooperate with the police and make himself available for questioning whenever summoned by them apart from submitting sureties.

It may be noted that the police had served notices for questioning Ram Gopal Varma, but he did not turn up, after which they searched for him in various cities but in vain. The granting of bail came as a big relief for the veteran filmmaker.

In November 2024, a complaint from a local Telugu Desam Party Leader, Ramalingam, alleged that RGV made derogatory comments against Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and other family members during the promotions of his movie Vyuham.

After the complaint, two teams from Andhra Pradesh police, with five cops in each team, were on the lookout for the filmmaker. Through his lawyer, Ram Gopal Varma had expressed his willingness to cooperate with the police and proposed to participate in the investigation “digitally.”
