Seven Punjab government teachers and principals have been summoned by the district education department for fighting over free lunch hours after a meeting with Chief Minister Mann on education reforms.
Seven Punjab school principals and headmasters have been asked to appear before the district education officers on May 20 after a video showing them jostling for food plates went viral on social media.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had called a meeting with school teachers and principals to discuss reforms in education. Hours later, they were seen jostling and fighting to grab a plate of free lunch.
Taking serious note of the video, the director of school education wrote a letter to the district education officers of Fazilka and Gurdaspur, and mentioned that the viral video brought shame to the education department.
A scrutiny of the video revealed that the school principals who were seen fighting for free food were from Gurdaspur and Fazilka districts.
The letter also mentioned the names of the principals, including Jasbir Kaur and Rajni Bala (Gurdaspur), Rajiv Kumar, Kundan Singh and Anil Kumar (headmasters), Ashima and Jaspal, both principals from Fazilka.
The meeting was called by CM Mann to seek input to raise the bar for school education. Recently, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched an online portal to seek ideas and suggestions from teachers for educational reforms.
